Finished!!!

I am now finished with my game demo! I think my biggest accomplishment was being able to work in Flash and finish my game demo. I didn't think that I would be able to finish it because thought it was going to be really hard, but with the help of my team mates and other classmates we finally finished! I think my biggest struggle with this was doing the actions for my game demo. When i first started working in Flash I had know idea of what to do, or how to do anything, but I now know a lot about Flash. The thing I liked most about this class was working in a team because without working with them I don't think I would be able to do it by myself. The thing I least liked about this class was that it was really hard and there was a lot of work to do. The advice I would give to a new class based on my experience is that you really need to pay attention, and do not think you won't be able to do something. The thing I liked most about presenting my game demo was that everyone on my team helped out on it. I really enjoyed taking this class this year and had a lot of fun with it, (even though it was a lot of work!)

Presentation

Soon we will be finishing our game demo and presenting it. I think by doing a practice presentation it will help us better prepare for the final presentation. Meaning that if we mess up while doing our practice presentation we will know what to do for our final presentation. I do think we will be ready for our game demo presentation because the only thing that we are doing right now is getting all of the actions and buttons working. That is our main concern, but I don't think we will have a problem fixing what needs to be fixed. For the actual presentation I am worried about the buttons not working and then we wouldn't be able to present our whole game demo. If all of the actions and buttons do work, I think our game demo will be really good and interesting.

We are still continuing to work on our game demo. I think we are about to start our biggest struggle, and that would be adding actions to make our game demo work. We are having some problems getting our frames in the correct order, but I think it will be easy to fix. Also, our game demo is working correctly, and I think its because we don't have the correct actions script, and our frames are messed up. I think that we have accomplished our goals for this week, because are goal for each week is to get more scenes added to our game demo. We pretty much have all the scenes we need for our game demo, so by the end of next week I hope that our game demo is working correctly with all the actions, and that our team page has all of the uploaded scenes on it. I do feel like my team members are contributing equally, we all help each other. I feel like our presentation is going to be really good, and I really like our game idea.

Our goals for this week as a team were to finish the intro scene, team introduction, and the primary game scene. Also we wanted to start adding more scenes to our game demo. We finished the first three scenes, but we were having trouble getting the work that we had done to show up on every one's computer. Also, yesterday we added an instructions scene, and I thought that it was really easy to do. I would have liked to have added more scenes, but we want to make sure everything is done correctly. For next week, I hope to accomplish adding more scenes and to make sure everything is working in the correct order. I think that my team and I are working really well together, and I hope our progress continues everyday. I think I could help my team by working harder and getting more accomplished each day. The three major things I would like to accomplish by next Friday are, making sure all my scenes are working correctly, adding more scenes to our game demo, and uploading more scenes to our team page.

Starting to Assemble Game Demo

The past few days we have been working on assembling our game demo. Our team hasn't accomplished very much yet, but we have accomplished some things. The things that we have accomplished are deciding who was going to do what, and also we began to work on our scenes. Something that I have accomplished is getting the team introduction scene set up. I think the easiest part was figuring out what team member was going to do what. Although I have accomplished my scene it was with the help of my team members. We have been helping each other with things, and I think that has made assembling our game demo a lot easier. One thing that I found hard was getting the text we entered to only show up one that particular scene. I feel like all of my team members our helping out equally because we are all helping each other. For the rest of the week I hope to get our introduction and primary game scene done. Also I hope to began adding other scenes to our game demo. I think once we get the whole game demo finished that it is going to be really good!

Flash- Game Demo Skeleton

The past few weeks we have been working in Flash. It has been a new experience, and I think that it is interesting. We have also been working on our game demo skeletons, which has been a little confusing. Some specific things I have learned are using layers, using different scenes, how to add buttons, and adding sound. Although I have not yet added sound to my game demo skeleton, I did watch the tutorial and I don't think that it will be too hard. I thing that I feel confident in, in using Flash is layers. I think that adding layers has been the easiest part, and I know how to use them well. I think the most difficult things is knowing when to add frames and key frames. It is easy to insert them, but if you don't insert one at the specific place it is needed then your movie won't work. Another thing that I find difficult is adding navigation to my buttons. I haven't yet figured out how it works, but I plan to have a classmate help me. I think once I know how to get the buttons to work that I will be able to help other classmates who don't know how to do it. I think once I get my game demo skeleton work, then I will have little confusion on getting our team game demo's to work.

Adding Sound

Yesterday, I learned how to add sound to Flash. I thought it was a little confusing at first, but as I continued to watch the video it got easier. I thought that adding sound was going to be hard, but really you have to just add a sound layer. Some sounds that I might include in my game are Mario saying good job and things like that. I think we should use that sound in our game when the person gets the correct answer. Also, our game is painting your room, so we could have sounds with paint dropping. I think that what ever sounds we end up using in our game will be good sounds and go with our game! Sound is important to games because it gives the game something extra. When I play games I never turn the sound on, but some people like the sounds. I don't really know any games that have great sound because I never turn the sound on, but Mario Brothers have good sounds. In that game they have all different kinds of sounds because there are many things going on.

Game Demo Skeleton

This week we had a live session with Meredith. She covered a lot in the presentation she gave, but I think it was very useful. I know that the video helped me better understand using Flash, but some things I wasn't sure on. In the live session with Meredith, I learned how to use layer and make scenes. I knew what those things were before that, but I now know how to make them work. After our live session with her, we began, as a class to make the game demo skeleton she made. At first it was hard because she taught us so much, but as we did it together it got easier. We made different layers for our skeleton, and they are actions, frame label, primary game, intro, team, and background layers. I thought that using the frames and key frames were a little more difficult, but now I think that they are easier. I think once I practice in Flash more, I will be able to do my game demo.

Working in Flash

The past few days I have been learning all about Flash, and I started to work in it also. It has been interesting finding out how everything works. I like using Flash, and even though sometimes it may be hard I usually find a way to work things out. I began to draw my paper prototype in Flash, and it is actually pretty easy. I thought that it would be more difficult, but because I don't have to draw a lot of things its pretty easy. The subject of our game is area, but you are going to paint your room finding the square footage of your room. Also, you are going to have to figure out how much it will cost, and how much paint you are going to need. i think that are game is going to be interesting, and I hope that other people like it too!

Teams

We have been working with our team, on our team pages. We discussed things like, what roles best fit you, our game design, and our timeline. I got the role as project manager, meaning I will have to update our team page, and make sure everyone follows the timeline. I think that I will be good at this role because I am responsible, and willing to make sure everyone follows the timeline. Our team worked really well, and we didn't have any disagreements on anything. I most look forward to seeing the final product of our game, because I think it is going to be good. The inspiration for our game is that we wanted to incorporate a real-world problem into our game.

Paper Prototype Reflection

This past few days I have been working with my team on our paper prototype. We did ours on area, and are game is called "Paint Your Own Room." In this game you will need to find the square footage of a room, how many gallons of paint you will need, and how much it will cost to paint your room. One of the things that I liked about making our paper prototype is that we got to apply a real-world application. One of the things that I didn't like was that we had to draw everything and then videoing taping it. Even though I didn't necessarily like doing those things I did enjoy working with my teams. I think that once we actually make the game, people will better understand our concept.

Team Expectations

Yesterday, we were introduced to our team members. My team consists of myself, Meredith, and Triston. I am really excited to get to work with them. We named our team, Team Blue. It's not the best team name in the world, but we can work with it. We decided that our math concept was going to area, because Meredith and Triston both had that as their math concept. I think that Triston will be best at doing the sound for our game, because he like to listen to music and will know what sounds, sound good. I think that Meredith will be good at the artist and team manager. She is very responsible, so I think she will be a great team manager. Also, I think that I will be good at game design and code expert. Even though sometimes I have trouble with my codes, I want to be code expert so I can learn to do them better. Meredith and I both feel confident using flash, so we plan to help Triston get a better understanding of using Flash. I am really excited to start our game because I think that I will learn a lot, and also be having fun at the same time.

Game Idea Reflection

Yesterday in class I uploaded text into flash. I wrote about my game idea and the concept, which is surface area. I explained how my game might work, and the things that I want to inquire in my game. I want people to be able to learn how to do surface area, but also make it fun for them to learn. Also, I explained exactly how I would like my game to work. Yesterday I also learned how to upload text into flash. When I finished it I had to upload the text on to my projects page. I am excited to be finally starting our game, and hope to learn more about it.

Games We Play

I do enjoy playing games in my free time. I think that if you have nothing to do or you just want to relax, playing games is a fun thing to do. I like playing games that are fun and colorful that way it can cheer me up. I don't think I would really enjoy playing shooting games or anything like that! My mini game that I made is similar to the games that I like to play because it is easy and contains some colors. One game that I like to play is called Waterslide Slalom. It's a very easy game, but I really like playing it and it has many colors. I hope that I will be able to make a game that has many colors, and is harder than my mini game!

Mini-Game Project

The last two days of class we have been working on our mini-game project. I think that it is really fun and interesting, but somethings are a little confusing. I also think that it is cool that all you have to do is copy and paste things to make the game work. Some of the things that we did include keyboard control, control loop, collision detector, score and some other things. Another thing that we did was add layers and changed the instance name under properties. In order for the movie to work we had to make sure we were in the actions layer and paste the things in the actions window. After we did everything that needed to be copied we had to test our movie and see if it would work. A few of the times when I tested my movie I got an error. In order to fix the error we had to delete everything that was in the action window and copy everything again. I really have liked using Flash and doing my mini-game project.

Intro to Flash

Intro to flash tells you about how to use flash. One of the things that I thought was important was the layers. It said that if you have higher layers that it will cover what you have in you lower layers. Also, it is a good idea to lock you layers because then if you are working on a layer and you do not want it get messed up you lock it. I think that locking the layers would be easy and useful so you don't mess the layer up. One of the things that I think would be a little hard to do is adding motion to a layer, but we might not have to do that. I am really looking forward to making this mini game project, and think it will be a lot of fun.

Choosing Blogs to Follow

Today I found some blogs that I would like to follow. One of the blogs that I chose I think will help me a lot because not only did it just talk about math, but it also had other things on it that made it interesting. I think these blogs are better than normal blogs because they have math included, they just don't talk about a certain topic. Some of the things they talk about on the blog is that they had to do a probability project. On the blog they had to write a summary of what they did. Other things that they talked about included, area of a triangle, linear patterns, and solving one-step equations. Also, a few of the blogs had pictures that could help people better understand the topic

Social Issue Review

Yesterday in class I reviewed social issues. Some of the social issues were poverty, environment, economy, and social networking. The issue that got my attention the most was poverty, because of the health care and all of the teens doing drugs. I think that that's a huge social issue because it happens a lot to teens. Another social issue is environment. Even though people say the don't pollute they really due in some way. For example, smoking, throwing things outside, car engines, and many other things cause pollution. It's very important that we help our community so we do not have as many social issues.

Playing the Game

One of the games that really enjoyed playing was called Darfur is Dying. I really thought the game was fun to play, and I hope I can design a game like that. Some of the things that I liked about the game is that it was easy to play and I liked the full concept of the game. One thing that I didn't like about the game was that is was not very colorful.

Another game that I played was called Image Detective. I liked playing the game, but I didn't think it was very interesting. Some of the things that I liked about the game was that it had different things to choose from and it had many colors. One of the things I didn't like about the game was that it was hard to play and took a lot of typing.

Globaloria Week 2

I thought that uploading videos and pictures was not very hard. It wasn't very hard as long as you followed the directions. I also thought that it was interesting how you had to upload the videos and pictures. One of my favorite parts was when we got to change the background color on our wiki. One thing that I found hard was linking our blogs to our blogger page, because mine didn't work very good! I am excited to see what we will be doing in the future because I find this class very interesting.

Blog Review

There was this blog that I found and I thought it was really interesting. They had a lot of cool pictures and gadgets. I loved the way the person set up their blog and how they used a bunch of different colors. A way I can approve my blog is by adding more colors and interesting things! Something that I learned from reading this person's blog is that they like country things. http://alively94.blogspot.com
